I know you can replace if you upgraded yourself but will it work if I try to replace Vista with XP on a pc that came with vista on it.How can I replace Vista with XP on a new pc - the pc had vista already installed?
If you have a copy of Windows XP with a product key then yes, you may install XP in place of Vista. Simply backup what you want to keep (documents, pictures, music, etc) onto a CD or DVD, insert your Windows XP CD and reboot your computer. You'll be given the option to format the partion you want Windows XP installed onto. You would choose the existing Windows Vista partition to install XP onto.
Alternatively, you may install Windows XP onto an altogether different partition than Vista, giving you the option to dual-boot. Dual-booting is a way of choosing whether to run XP or Vista during your machine's startup, and may be the better option.
Before proceeding, though, ask yourself why you want to trash Vista. I understand that it is a resource-hungry operating system that completely fails to offer what was promised, but it will supercede Windows XP eventually: you'll not be able to get away from it quite as easily as you think in the months and years to come.
If you're feeling adventurous - and if you're not reliant on Windows for a particular product, such as commercial games - then you could abandon Windows completely and consider another operating system like Linux. Further more, you could even multi-boot between Windows XP, Windows Vista and Linux. Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu in the sources are completely free, and allow this. (You could even download and burn a copy of the free LiveCDs just to try them out and see if they fit your needs - all without installing anything.)How can I replace Vista with XP on a new pc - the pc had vista already installed?
If you have windows XP cd, boot from it and create a new install, you can delete/format existing partitions and install xp on it

Why would you want to do that. Vista is newer and more secure.
You would need to format the hard drive, then install Windows XP after doing so.
u need 2 format the drive by the BOOTable Xp cd
then install the new Xp
System Recovery by booting with a system disk for XP.
Step 1: Go to the store and buy a copy of Windows XP.
Step 2: Go home, open box with Windows XP.
Step 3: Install Windows XP.
Problem solved.
vista needs more resources of your pc, so if you install xp it will work a lot faster, so i think you had a good idea.. just get windows XP with boot loader and resart your pc with the disc inside the drive, and follow step by step
I do it on Dells
I work as a computer tech and I've probably worked on Windows Vista around 20 times, on desktops and laptops, mostly dells, and a few HP's, and a few others. If you like Vista and are happy with it, and don't have any problems, you will probably enjoy it.
That said, I have had to uninstall Vista on 4 computers, and install XP again, some of these problems include, Not being able to install their favorite games, they got copies of office from someone else and it won't install on Vista, because they don't have a valid serial number. The printer won't install on Vista, the incredimail won't work correctly on Vista, and a ton of other reasons. People are creatures of habit, and Vista is just too much different than XP.
People want to be able to sit down and the computer works and works well. Vista just isn't there just yet.
As far as cool features, I've been too busy with the problems to notice.
