Has anyone been successful buying a new laptop and replacing Vista with XP?

Have you been able to replace Vista with XP? How does the machine work?

I am planning to purchase a new Laptop in a couple weeks. I hate Windows Vista. I have a store bought full version of Windows XP with SP2. I want to remove Vista and install XP.

Please share your experiences.Has anyone been successful buying a new laptop and replacing Vista with XP?
for starters...no, xp wont just necessarily work on a pc that uses vista. first off the drivers on new pc's are configured to work with vista and not windows XP. some pc manufacturers such as HP do offer drivers for new computers that will work with xp. you will have to go to the manufacturers site and determine if there are replacement drivers for your PC that you are deciding to purchase. the drivers that come with your new pc, as i said before WILLNOT! work with xp! also their are 32 bit and 64 bit versions of vista. so, if your new computer has a 32bit version then you are using a 32bit hardware system ,likewise, if you are buying a pc with 64bitvista then you are purchasing a 64 bit hardware configured pc. your 32bit XpP disk will not run on a 64bit pc. for most current pc's on the market today, there are no role back drivers. hers what you can do.....buy a 64bit version of vista. heres why! if you dont then you wont be able to run windows 7 when it is fully available. xp eventually will be obsolete. however, microsoft does offer a free download called ';microsoft virtual PC';, this program is totally free. it allows you to install your operating system to your hardrive using software that emulates a 32bit operating system, such as xp. i know this all sounds confusing, but you need to know this. these are facts! and yes computers and all software programs to be developed in the near future are moving toward 64bit rapidly. if you are still happy with the idea of buying vista then atleast make sure the that the pc you do buy has drivers available for download that will work on you model. one last note....if you have previously installed that xp disk on another laptop it is most likely that it will not validate and the license will then run out in 30 days. keep this in mind. i hope this answered your question.Has anyone been successful buying a new laptop and replacing Vista with XP?
Why don't you find a laptop with XP pre-installed? My laptop runs a dual boot configuration Vista/Windows 7 and everything is fine.

I guess you do realize there will come a time when Microsoft support for Windows XP comes to an end
Be careful with the hardware you are buying. I purchased a vista laptop and was not impressed with the speed. So I wiped the hard drive and installed winxp sp 2 I should have checked deeper because the wifi card manufacturer did not have any drivers for a win xp os. Long story short I use an outside wifi usb without using the onboard wifi because I did not research before jumping in.
Have you activated your store bought version of XP on another machine? If you have then you cannot legally install it as the downgrade of Vista. What you can do is call Microsoft when activating after installing XP with that code, and they will give you an activation code and disable the Vista code.
Installing XP should be easy, just put the disk in and follow the on screen instructions, should only take half an hour or so.

I dont see why people hate Vista so much, it just seems to be the trend, no one ever has any good reasons.

If XP is so good then it should work fine.
While installing XP did u got error like hard disk not found or something similar. ? then you better go to bios settings and search for something called AHCI (i cannot tell the exact location cause all bios are different) and change it to IDE for XP and then install the same.
I recently bought a HP Pavilion laptop, with fingerprint scanner, webcam, etc. The laptop came out standard with Vista, and all the drivers were on the hard drive, as a second partition. I was afraid I would lose the function of the webcam and the fingerprint reader, converting back to XP, due to driver issues.

A friend of mine, runs his own PC shop, he did the conversion for me, and got all the drivers back on the system. 100% no issues. When I went to pick the laptop up, he told me, he does on average about 10 laptop conversion back to XP a day.

So yes, it can be done, just make sure you have the correct drivers, if not check the manufacturer's site before hand.
Yes, I've done it six times here at work on Dell Vostros. Drivers can be an issue but you can usually find then on the web somewhere. I got all I needed from the Dell website, though I had to do some searching to see what components were installed on what machine - there were no drivers specifically available for XP for the model we bought. The poster who mentioned the AHCI issue is correct.
