When booting from the disk my comp gets through loading everything but then it wont read my hard drive at all, it says there is no hard disk and that setup cant continue, but when i attached my external hard drive it asked if that was the one i wanted to use. how can i get it to read my laptops hard driveError while booting replacing vista with xp?

know one thing vista dont allow to degrade the version of OS. First Format the hard disk completely with the Vista Disc.
And look at the bios settings if you could find any data format related settings for the Hard disk as some Laptops come with this settings. if not try installing the XP Now!
it must go well!
But if your laptop came with Vista its bit difficult, in some PC its not possible to Downgrade!
