How can i replace my OS vista to XP?

i have laptop with home basic vista OS.. now i want to install xp or windows 7How can i replace my OS vista to XP?
1) Purchase a licensed copy of either XP or Windows 7

2) Follow installation instructions that come with the operating system.

Microsoft generally makes installation pretty simple. As long as you are installing to relatively modern hardware, you can set the CD/DVD drive to be a bootable device before the hard disk and just mount the install CD to handle the installation.

Things to be aware of:

- Installing will overwrite any files on the existing Vista installation. If you have data there, make sure to back it up prior to upgrade.

- Windows XP is an end of life product. That said, XP will still have some level of support since many home and business users are still using XP. My employer, that has over 100K employees, still uses XP with no immediate plan to upgrade.

- Download drivers and store on CD/DVD or USB drive prior to upgrading. This will save you a lot of time later since you can easily view hardware information on the existing installation. In particular, get the video and networking drivers, but all drivers are good to get.How can i replace my OS vista to XP?
buy a copy and boot from the disc. windows is almost idiot proof when it comes to installation. read some instructions online.
Umm for windows 7 its as simple as buying an upgrade CD

But for XP its a whole different matter. I Think you have to do a clean install to get XP on to your machine.
I would format the hard drive and do a fresh install.

Naturally, you would need to purchase XP or Windows 7.

Before you format, make sure you save all your data!! (pictures, music, etc.)
Well, you would need the installation disc for whichever OS you choose. Unfortunately, you might only be able to ';upgrade'; (and I use that term loosely) to Windows 7. I had a laptop that was built for Vista. When I installed XP on it, it ran fine for a few months, and then fried my hard drive. Wasn't a pleasant experience. Motherboards built for Vista, for some reason, rarely support the drivers and components needed for XP. Very sad, yes, but that's the reality.
Place Windows 7 media in the optical drive (DVD). You can also run the upgrade if you copy the media to a flash key.

Step

2Wait for the Windows 7 splash screen to appear to begin the upgrade. If the splash screen does not appear, click ';Start'; then ';Computer'; and double-click on the removable media drive. Click ';Setup'; and the Windows 7 splash screen appears.

Step

3Click ';Install.'; Windows 7 copies over the setup files and begins to upgrade your installation to Windows 7.

Step

4Windows 7 asks you if you want to go online to download the latest security fixes for Windows 7. Choose ';Yes.';

Step

5The upgrade process will take several hours. You can check back and keep track of the progress.

By my experience you are doing the best thing.

you should either use Xp or 7 but don't use vista. vista is more complicated and is not worth it.

If you want to change your OS you can easily do it by formatting your computer and then installing windows of your choice.
Please let us know the make and model.
It is much, much simpler for you to upgrade to windows 7, because windows 7 is designed to upgrade from Vista without having to reinstall any of your programs or documents.

But if you want to go to XP, it is more complicated, you would need to start over with a 'clean' install and then reinstall all your programs and files (and of course back them up first, before you started).

Hi dilip

If you檙e planning on installing Windows 7, I recommend downloading and running the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, available if you follow this link: http://bit.ly/4C8qem . It will help eliminate any potential conflicts that may exist between your existing machine and Windows 7.

Good luck!

Dilip,

There are two solutions of your question.

First is:

you format your laptop and install XP 7

2nd solution is:

you can keep both OS on same time ( don't remove Vista and install XP on other drive or laptop)

if you install both OS then whenever you will start laptop then it will ask to you that which OS u want to use, you can change OS on every start.
