How to save file format suitable for XP and VISTA?

hi,

ive just got a new, faster pc with vista at home

to replace my old XP pc

i regularly use my college computers with XP microsoft word/2007 i think, and save my work to my memory stick to work on at home too

is there any way i can open them in vista?

if i wish to create a new document on VISTA (eg essay for college) what format should i save it in so i can open it in college too without hassle? (XP pc's)

id be very glad if anyone can help me out even if it means i gotta buy a new word/powerpoint etc to use it..depending on cost i cant get to my work! :(

if u have word 2007 on your computer then windows vista should have the same program.. Save the document as the default the program offers.. i think that would be '; .docx '; . Now it should be compatible with any 2007 word program..

** if your computer doesnt have word 2007 then save the file as

'; .doc '; ... option will say '; save as 97-2003 doc. ';.. now it should work on both word 2007 and 97-2003 word. How to save file format suitable for XP and VISTA?
If you have Office 07, just go to the logo in the top left hand croner, hover over the save button, and click on the save in office 97-2003 format. After you save it, you should be able to open it in office 03, xp, etc.
