How is Vista replaced w/ XP in a new laptop? Complications?

I just bought a new laptop, an Acer Aspire 5100-5033 with Vista Home Premium. I've been thinking of having the Vista replaced with a full version of XP Home.

I know that the hard drive will be reformatted, Vista uninstalled, XP installed, %26amp; drivers downloaded from Acer檚 support website. I know it takes about 2.5 hours. But could anyone please tell me more about the process? The complications?

Will other pre-installed programs be removed along with the Vista, such as NTI CD-Maker for my internal DVD burner? If, say, that is removed, will I be able to burn discs afterword?

Thanks!

Just boot from the XP CD in the bios, it will guide you through the process and format the hard drive. Yes, all data will be deleted, including Vista

And yes, you will be able to burn disks still. XP already comes with the software needed to burn music and Data CDs, but you will need additional software if you want to burn disk images (iso, etc)

The only reason you'd have complications would be if there weren't any XP drivers for your laptop. So make sure that there is XP drivers before doing anything.

And it will probably take less than 2.5 hours on that thing

Much thanks to both of you!

As the other person said - the drivers are very important - at least make sure you have internet access before ditching your working OS.

I installed XP on my desktop that had Vista - it was a huge pain cause it wouldn't even start to install... I had to get a driver so that the OS would work with the stinkin hard drive!
