How do I wipe Windows Vista off and Replace it with Windows XP Home Edition?

Recently had problems with our BT Home Hub Wireless Internet.

We have 3 Laptops in the house, 2 have XP and one has Vista - The Vista has nothing but problems with the connectivity to the Hub and limited connectivity to the Internet and I have read that this is a common problem with Vista and the BT homehub.

So ive tried to fix it but to no avail, and I have now decided that Id just rather get rid of the vista and replace it with XP (like the other two have) to ensure there is no more future problems, because quite frankly its becoming a pain in the backside.

My question is, could somebody please give me a quick step by step guide to installing XP and getting rid of the Vista that's on it?..Do i just boot the PC from the cd drive and the XP cd will do it all by itself?...

Thanks to all who reply in advance! How do I wipe Windows Vista off and Replace it with Windows XP Home Edition?
As I've said in a few answers, you can install XP as normal, it's quite easy but if it's a fairly modern PC, with SATA drives, then you need to make a copy of your XP setup CD that includes drivers for SATA since XP was written prior to SATA becoming available, so doesn't have drivers on the CD. Without these drivers it won't see your PC as having any drives, so the installer will crash. Here's what to do.....

You need to download nLite (or something similar) to rebuild your XP installation cd with your drivers included. You can get nLite from here: http://www.nliteos.com/download.html You should be able to get the drivers for your SATA/RAID controllers from the manufacturer. I don't know about other makes, but with NVidia, if you download the nforce chipset drivers you can extract them from the installer with Uniextract, which you can get here: http://legroom.net/software/uniextract If you extract them to a folder, then run nLite, give it your XP setup cd when it asks for it, then you'll get the opportunity to add extra drivers to the xp disk. Finally, select the direct burn option (as making an image doesn't always work) and put a blank cd in your recorder.

If you're computer has a floppy drive (unlikely on a modern laptop) then you can simply extract the chipset drivers/download them and then put them on a floppy. Then all you'd need to do is to press F6 when at the start of setting up it says at the bottom of the screen, ';Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI (or RAID, not quite sure which it says) drivers';How do I wipe Windows Vista off and Replace it with Windows XP Home Edition?
load the Windows home edition cd in at start up and press any key when it says and then go through the procedure

You will have to ensure that your laptop has the necessary drivers to run XP. Look at the manufacturers website for more details. You need to be looking into 'downgrading Vista to XP' in your searches as that is what you'll be doing.
Just get the bootable xp cd and put it in when you turn on the pc. if it doesnot read the cd then u have change the bios settings. if it does then follow the instructions. at one step it will ask you to format the harddrive. go for full format rather than quick format.

best of luck.

if u do a quick google search u will find many guides
Dont install Xp on a computer thats built for vista, you will have more problems

To fix your network connection, do this..

Device manager

Network adapters

uninstall Family fast ethernet and wireless lan then restart your computer and let windows reload the drivers
One suggestion was to go to the manufacturers website...

definitely do this. Go to the download drivers section for your model and put in Widows XP for the operating system. If it does not list drivers for XP then you best not try the downgrade. Some laptop models have been built for Vista only and no drivers have been written for it, and they won't be.

By the way... are you planning spending $180 on the Home software? If you can even find it. Newegg lists the Pro OEM version for $135
