How can we remove Vista and replace it with XP home?

Our friend bought a new laptop, and it came with Vista installed, along with restore CD's. I'm a Mac person, and can't figure out why he didn't buy the right OS, but oh well.

Anyway, he hates Vista. He misses using XP, and so he is considering buying an XP home disc and erasing Vista and replacing it with XP. Before he tries that, he wants to know if his computer is going to let him do that.

Will it work? If so, what steps does he need to take? Any programs he will need outside of the new XP disk? How can we remove Vista and replace it with XP home?
Sure it will. You will need to reformat the hard drive and do a fresh install but he is makin a big mistake! Vista is superior to windows in every way. He is better off takin some time to learn Vista.l I use it and wont go back to XP!How can we remove Vista and replace it with XP home?
Honestly don't see why you would remove windows vista.

There is nothing wrong with it at all.

2 years of using it %26amp; I have had no problems!

Only drawback is that it takes slightly more memory to run. Slightly more!
Going to let him do that?...

Unfortunately we are not in the Matrix, and machines do not control us... yet.

Vista is a superior operating system than XP in many ways. Just turn off the UAC and add some ram and you won't even notice that Vista takes about 2x as many processes to run.

I am a pc person, but I agree that Mac's are better laptops.

But ok, I'm not here to tell you to tell your friend to click the ';add ram'; button and magically make his pc awesome... thats really all it takes.(seriously - not the button, but just add ram to any Vista PC and you will see a huge difference)

To the point, plop in the XP cd, make sure you want to erase everything on your current drive (this is called reformatting) then make a partition on the drive for the OS.

Hit enter a few times and it installs automatically.
yeah its easy, just insert the boot CD first and restart the computer,

But first follow these steps on this site, http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-v

Trust me on this, the site shows your very scenario

%26lt;---------------Hope this Helps------------%26gt;
Insert WindowsXP CD.

It will ask u where to install OS

Select C:\

It will format your C: drive and automatically install WindowsXP
If a PC can run Vista it should run XP. XP comes with a good range of drivers but once he's installed XP he may want to go the individial hardware device manufacturers to see if they have updated drivers.

Before he does that though, he may want to see if the Vista ';classic'; theme suits him better than the default.

1. Click Start and open the Control Panel.

2. Click Appearance and Personalization.

3. Click Personalization.

4. Click Theme.

5. Select the Windows Classic option from the drop down menu and click OK

He should also remember that the next PC he gets will be running Windows 7 or possibly Windows 8 (already being planned and developed) both of which will look more like Vista than the old classic Windows. So, he may as well get used to Vista now or plan on keeping those XP disks for a very long time.
good call Vista is a Joke. they can't even get a business to convert to it. Just put in the XP CD and hit install do a custom so it does it for you. It will take about 2-3 hours depending how much it has to format. You will lose some of the new features that Vista offers though. But, most of them don't work right anyways.
To erase Vista from your computer you have first to format your Hard disk Drive. Make sure before doing so, make a backup of all your files because your going to lose it if you don麓t do it.

then go to the Bios of your laptop and go to the boot sequence, once there, you have to choose the order to boot. so make sure you put your cd or dvd drive first. then save the changes and insert the XP CD in the tray. Then Restart your laptop, then the laptop should say something like: Press any key to boot from CD ..... I don麓t remember well but something like that, so press enter and the format process should start.

You don麓t need any more programs than the XP CD
